CAPACITY ACCELERATION
AND FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS

Capacity acceleration remains central to the CVF-V20’s mission to advance climate resilience, reform the global financial architecture, and strengthen collective representation in multilateral processes.

Through its fellowship programs, the CVF-V20 invests in emerging and mid-career leaders across finance ministries, diplomatic missions, negotiating teams, and youth movements to ensure that climate-vulnerable nations engage with sustained expertise in the processes that shape their futures.

V20 CLIMATE PROSPERITY
FELLOWSHIP

(FINANCE MINISTRY)

The V20 Climate Prosperity Fellowship strengthens the technical and strategic capacity of senior finance ministry officials from climate-vulnerable countries. Implemented in partnership with Boston University’s Global Development Policy Center since 2023, the program has grown into one of the CVF-V20’s flagship capacity-acceleration initiatives.

Now in its third cohort, the program currently includes 19 Fellows from 14 countries and counts 32 alumni from 20 countries. Fellows engage deeply with the most pressing issues at the intersection of climate and finance, including debt sustainability, international financial architecture reform, climate-aligned financial systems, and innovative financing mechanisms. The program equips officials to lead and influence high-stakes policy processes both within their governments and in international forums.

V20 NEW YORK
FELLOWSHIP

The V20 New York Fellowship extends the Climate Prosperity Fellowship’s capacity-acceleration approach to the diplomatic front, supporting officials already serving within the permanent missions of CVF-V20 member countries to the United Nations in New York.

This track strengthens coordinated and well-informed engagement in critical negotiations, including processes related to Financing for Development and other UN-led frameworks. By supporting diplomats embedded within their national missions, the fellowship bridges the gap between country-level climate priorities and global policy outcomes.

CVF YOUTH
FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The CVF Youth Fellowship Program supports the next generation of climate negotiators and leaders from the world’s most climate-vulnerable nations. To date, the program has engaged 23 Fellows from 16 member countries, offering structured training on negotiation topics, UNFCCC processes, and key climate workstreams.

Youth Fellows are then supported to participate in the Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, where they contribute to and support their national delegations and, in some cases, deliver formal interventions on behalf of their countries during negotiations. The program is building a cohort of experienced, confident young negotiators equipped to carry their countries’ voices into the future.
