Call for Applications: The V20 Climate Prosperity Fellowship Program (2026-2027)

OVERVIEW

In 2023, the CVF-V20 and the Boston University Global Development Policy Center launched the V20 Climate Prosperity Fellowship Program for finance officials (or equivalent) from CVF-V20 Member Countries. The Fellowship Program is an integral part of the CVF-V20’s ongoing efforts to promote and drive ambitious climate action and to mobilize international support for climate vulnerable nations.

The aim of the V20 Climate Prosperity Fellowship Program is to engender cooperation among CVF-V20 member states, provide them with the tools to combat challenges they may face in the pursuit of strategies to avert climate breakdown, and pioneer the development of economic and financial solutions, including the mobilization of domestic climate finance towards positive climate action.   

The V20 Climate Prosperity Fellowship Program is designed to provide mid- to senior career officials with opportunities for peer-learning, building cutting-edge technical skills to integrate climate change into their work, and supporting their leadership in advancing innovative solutions. The CVF-V20 has consistently emphasized the need to reform the international financial architecture to unlock opportunities on the ground to promote climate prosperity. Through weekly webinars, interactions with experts, residencies, and immersive exercises, V20 Climate Prosperity Fellows will have a unique opportunity to work together in advancing a fit for purpose international financial architecture.

COLLABORATION OBJECTIVES

At the end of the program, Fellows are expected to be well positioned to support resource mobilization for Climate Prosperity Plans and to:

  • Understand the international financial architecture and be able to identify opportunities to support climate prosperity;
  • Engage in policy discussions concerning reform of the international financial architecture;
  • Harness the knowledge and skills needed to engage and access processes associated with the international financial architecture, including on debt reform, shifting of financial flows, carbon financing exchanges, and mainstream surveillance of climate risks to drive new investment;
  • Identify and deploy communications strategies used to raise awareness of the priorities of the climate-vulnerable countries in relation to the reform of the international financial architecture; and
  • Contribute to the formulation and implementation of their countries’ Climate Prosperity Plans.

TARGET OUTCOME

To provide peer-learning and technical enhancement support to the finance ministries (or equivalent) of 16 to 20 CVF-V20 member countries by equipping Fellows with skills to pursue the mobilization of financial resources more effectively to support ambitious national climate prosperity plans for development positive climate action.

KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Participation in online classes/seminars/workshops
  • Participation in one-week in-person residencies in January 2027 and October 2027;
  • Participation in relevant meetings, supported by the CVF-V20;
  • Participation in interactive discussions with representatives of International Financial Institutions and partner groups with the support of the CVF-V20; and
  • Preparation and delivery of presentations during V20 Senior Officials Meetings and relevant CVF-V20 workshops and events.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

Candidates from Ministries of Finance (or equivalent) in CVF-V20 member countries who meet the requirements set out below are invited to apply to participate in the year-long Fellowship Program for the period 2026- 2027:  

  • Citizen of a CVF-V20 member country;
  • Official with demonstrated five to ten years of mid- to senior-level experience in international affairs, public policy and/or development, including climate/environmental/sustainable development;
  • Committed to participate in the Fellowship program’s activities organized throughout the year, both online and in-person and to complete and submit assignments as required;
  • Willingness to travel abroad to attend in person meetings and training sessions with members of their cohort;
  • Commitment to attend scheduled weekly virtual sessions for the duration of the fellowship period;
  • Committed to working and sharing information with their national government and national stakeholders after the completion of the Fellowship;
  • Committed to integrating into the growing network of V20 CPP fellows and staying engaged in the community to advance common priorities and mutual learning; and
  • Proficient in English.

*Prospective Fellows interested in undertaking intensive training in debt sustainability analyses should indicate the same in their application and, in so doing, commit to an additional session to undertake this training each week. Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and familiarity with macroeconomic concepts are recommended.

Virtual Meeting

Fellows contribute to preparations for the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, including through the identification of priorities, policy goals, and strategies with the goal to put together a singular document for Spring Meetings priorities, with the possibility of sharing externally, as well as to the V20 Communiqué.
