BACKGROUND
The V20 Funding Program Committee will be established to operationalize the US$5.35-million V20 Funding Programme supported by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The Programme will directly support a range of innovative adaptation interventions such as community infrastructure and livelihood asset repair, climate resilient reconstruction and rehabilitation for communities most recently impacted by extreme weather events to build climate adaptive standards.
The Committee will have the following mandate:
- Approve the V20 Funding Program Annual Plan
- Provide overall guidance, oversee and ensure that the goals of the V20 Funding Program are aligned with those of the V20
- Ensure a just, appropriate, and equitable distribution of resources to meet the V20 Funding Program objectives
- Approve the selection of projects to receive financing from the V20 Funding Program
The membership to the Committee will be renewed on an annual basis to ensure equal participation from different countries of the CVF-V20.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Government officials of CVF-V20 Member Countries who demonstrate the following understanding and experience:
- Fundamental understanding of climate change: The candidate should possess a strong grasp of the science behind climate change, its current and future impacts, particularly concerning loss and damage in vulnerable regions. This includes knowledge of extreme weather events, slow-onset processes (like sea-level rise and desertification), and their economic and non-economic consequences.
- Relevant experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation: While the focus is on Loss and Damage, understanding the interplay with adaptation and mitigation strategies is vital. The candidate should know how these different approaches relate and influence the effectiveness of addressing loss and damage.
- Familiarity with international climate change negotiations and frameworks: Experience with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Paris Agreement, and recent discussions on Loss and Damage is highly valuable. Understanding the key decisions, and political dynamics of these processes is crucial for effective participation.
- Knowledge of relevant national, regional and international policies: The candidate should be well-versed in their own government’s climate change policies and how they intersect with international efforts on Loss and Damage. Familiarity with relevant international and regional agreements, financing mechanisms, and institutions is also important.
- V20 Climate Prosperity Fellowship Program: It is preferable that the candidate is part of the current V20 Fellowship Program or has successfully completed it.
