Investment Associate (The Gambia), Africa Regional Office

OBJECTIVE

The Investment Associate will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and implementing programmatic activities under the Gambia’s Climate Prosperity Investment and Financing Strategy and related climate finance initiatives. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized self-starter who can manage complex workflows while bringing strong analytical and financial skills to support both program delivery and transaction advisory efforts. Core responsibilities include project management, stakeholder engagement, technical and policy analysis, and resource mobilization to advance The Gambia’s transition toward climate-resilient and sustainable development pathways.

The Associate will work closely with government agencies, development partners, financial institutions, industry associations, private-sector actors, civil society, and academia to ensure smooth implementation, accelerated capacity, and effective delivery of program objectives. The role includes managing due diligence processes, leading aspects of financial modelling and compliance workflows, coordinating with private-sector partners, overseeing the contributions of partners, contributing to the structuring of climate-related transactions, supporting fundraising and investment preparation activities, and contributing to institutional growth through knowledge development, strategic research, and fund operations.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Associate will play a central role in delivering climate finance and transaction advisory, overseeing analytical workstreams, supporting transaction execution, and contributing to institutional growth. This position requires strong judgement, the ability to manage complex workflows, and the maturity to work directly with senior government counterparts, partners, and private-sector actors. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Lead and manage the execution of advisory engagements, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery across all workstreams;
  2. Prepare and review presentations, concept notes, session agendas, reports, and overview decks;
  3. Coordinate inputs from leadership and partners, ensuring alignment and quality control;
  4. Oversee due diligence processes, internal approval workflows, and compliance documentation;
  5. Guide the development, updating, and maintenance of financial models and analytical tools; review team and partners outputs for accuracy and robustness;

  8. Support and help lead negotiations, financial modelling, fundraising activities, and transaction closings;

  11. Strengthen existing partnerships and develop new collaborations with national and regional authorities, development partners, and stakeholders to enhance the visibility of CVF-V20;
  12. Promote the uptake of CVF-V20 outputs and lead regional-level communication and outreach activities in collaboration with communications and resource mobilization teams;
  13. Perform other research, programmatic, organizational, or communications tasks as requested by the Managing Director and/or CVF management.

 

Reports to: Regional Director for Africa

QUALIFICATIONS

The Investment Associate shall possess the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree or Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, or a related discipline. 
  2. A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in investment banking, fund management, climate finance, or related fields.
  3. Demonstrated track record in designing, managing, and overseeing complex multi-stakeholder programs.
  4. Experience working directly with private sector, government entities and multilateral partners on transactions, reforms, capacity-building initiatives, or implementation of climate strategies.
  5. In-depth understanding of finance, climate finance, including loss and damage funds, green bonds, blended finance solutions, and multilateral climate funds.
  6. Support and help lead negotiations, financial modelling, fundraising activities, and transaction closings.
  7. Prepare and review transaction documentation, ensuring alignment across all participating parties.
  8. Experience working in or with climate-vulnerable regions, combined with cultural sensitivity and the ability to adapt engagement strategies to local contexts.
  9. Self-starter with an entrepreneurial, adaptive, and collaborative approach to problem-solving and driving results in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
  10. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical topics into clear, compelling messages for senior policymakers and diverse stakeholders/
  11. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of additional languages relevant to CVF-V20 regions is an asset.
  12. Strong commitment to achieving measurable outcomes that promote climate resilience, just transition, and inclusive growth.
  13. Ability and willingness to travel internationally as needed.
