Statement by Special Envoy of the CVF Presidency of Ghana, Hon. Dr. Henry Kokofu, at COP27

Henry Kokofu, released the following statement today at UNFCCC COP27:

“Alongside the G7 and other rich countries, the United States is among the most emitting nations responsible for the climate crisis. So far we are yet to see a full commitment from them on finance and support to help climate-vulnerable countries.

“It is important that the world addresses the climate catastrophes that are hitting us the hardest. President Joe Biden did bring the US back into the Paris Agreement, which is a positive sign. Now in Sharm el Sheikh, we expect the US President to show more leadership in committing dedicated new funds for loss and damage and putting in place mechanisms to deliver it. Another empty bank account will not do as a COP outcome.

“We know that Special Presidential Envoy John Kerry is working very hard to have a powerful outcome also for the most vulnerable at COP27. Our parliamentarians have had useful conversations here with Speaker Pelosi, so we remain hopeful.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
