Ghana CVF Statement made on behalf of the CVF at the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur for the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of climate change

Thank you Mr. President,
As current Chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum, Ghana on behalf of the members of CVF welcomes the appointment of the first UN Special Rapporteur on Climate Change. The Forum was the principal advocate for this mandate and we have read your first report with much interest and would like to deliver the following remarks.
The promotion and protection of Human Rights in the context of adaptation, mitigation, climate finance and loss and damage has always been a top priority for the Forum. The adverse impact of climate change is felt across the spectrum of collective and individual, fundamental human rights.
With this new mandate, the Forum hopes for enhanced efforts by the UN Human rights system to address the adverse impact of climate change and mobilize support for the most vulnerable. We count on the support of the Special Rapporteur to raise awareness about those most vulnerable to climate change facing extreme threats to their fundamental human rights.
The CVF looks forward to the Special Rapporteur’s first report to the UN General Assembly this September on the actions to address climate change, particularly in the context of loss and damage.
The CVF Presidency, as with our members, do stand fully ready to work with and support the Special Rapporteur.
